| Once
you have submitted your claim on Form ET1 to the Employment
Tribunal Office covering the postcode area in which
you work or worked there will be a validation process
to make sure that various procedures have been complied
with that the Employment Tribunal undertake.
If a claim appears valid and satisfactory you will receive,
within a few days, notification of your Case Number
and
details of how the case will proceed. You will find
your
Case Number on the initial validation document you
receive from the Employment Tribunal ‘Acknowledgement
of Claim’ (ET5) and on subsequent correspondence.
In England & Wales a Case Number is a 7 digit figure,
followed by the year the claim was submitted, such as:
/04, /05, /06 or /2004, /2005, /2006. In Scotland it
is a 6 digit figure (sometimes proceeded with ‘S’),
followed by the year the claim was submitted (as above).
If the Tribunal need to undertake some validation exercises,
or ask further questions, there will be correspondence
sent to you in which you will be given a ‘preliminary’
Case Number that begins ‘PA’. The Tribunal
will need their questions answered before the final
Case Number can be given.
You can register in with either; the preliminary ‘PA’
Case Number or the final Case Number. If you do not
have either of these numbers at this time, register
when you receive it.
